Bucknell University is committed to providing a safe learning, teaching and research environment. To protect students, faculty, staff and the community from exposure to potentially biohazardous materials that may cause disease or other detrimental effects in humans, animals or plants, the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is responsible for the review and approval of research and teaching lab protocols for work that involves biohazardous materials.

Biohazardous materials include recombinant or synthetic nucleic acids, biological toxins, microorganisms or viruses that are potentially infectious to humans, animals or plants, and material that can contain such infectious agents, such as human blood, body fluid or tissue. This review will ensure the safe acquisition, storage, use and disposal of all biohazardous materials.
